Hi, my name is Emma, I am the owner of The Barn at Lees Farm. Five years ago I was lucky enough to be able to convert this run down barn in to a family home for myself and my children. I had always wanted to have holiday accommodation, so I made the most of the space and created The Annex and The Yurt, which is off grid.

Starting from an empty shell gave me a great opportunity to really make it my own. I made the decision early on that I would be as eco conscious as I could be, with air source heating, rainwater harvesting and locally sourced materials where possible, and re-using everything that could be from red brick to roof tiles.

I have carried the same ethos through into my holiday accommodation. We have composting bins, recycling points, coffee grounds are used for growing, cut flowers and herbs come from the garden, I use refillable washing up liquid, hand soap, shampoos, and cleaning products etc from Ironbridge Eco Bubbles, for my hampers, I use Bees Wax Wraps made by Alison. The hot tubs are wood fired and fresh water, I don’t use any nasty chemicals to clean, even though this has been hard during Covid – 19, I did find a marine safe product that was to the European standard required. The hot tubs are heated using kiln dried wood that is locally sourced here in Telford and Wrekin from LogaLog. Milk is from Chatham’s Organic Dairy and water/ juices etc are in glass bottles. Lastly, I have been using Who Gives Crap toilet paper for a few years now.

Every month I try to make a sustainable swap, next on the list is teabags (this doesn’t sound like much but when I have guests in both The Annex and The Yurt, it soon mounts up). I will be swapping bags for leaves and they will be added to the compost too. I am also making wildflower seed paper for messages I leave for guests. We all need to do our own little bit and if everyone did one thing, it would amount to lots.

So, if you’d like to make a little difference too, then you can add The Barn at Lees Farm to your eco friendly list. We are also pet friendly.
