
Telford & Wrekin Council is the local authority for the Telford and Wrekin borough in Shropshire, in the Midlands. The council is an award winning co-operative council informed by the views and voices of local residents, communities and partners. In July 2019, the council adopted a new vision for the organisation to “protect, care and invest to create a better borough” together with a series of commitments to deliver that vision. Additionally, the Council are proactively supporting their climate emergency pledge with a range of initiatives throughout the county.
A wide range of small businesses are also focusing on helping with the climate emergency, offering planet-friendly products and services throughout the borough.

Climate Emergency
In 2019 Telford & Wrekin Council declared a climate emergency. In 2020 they published a report and action plan which will begin the conversation around what needs to be done to limit the impact of climate change.

2030 Carbon Neutral Council
Telford & Wrekin Council are is now working, along with partners, to go carbon neutral by 2030. By March 2021 the Council had already reduced its operating emissions by 36% compared to the previous year.

Climate Change Borough Partnerhship
As well as the Council's commitment to be carbon neutral by 2030, this aim extends to the whole Borough. They have joined forces with businesses, Parish & Town Councils, community groups, schools and others to form the Telford & Wrekin Climate Change Partnership.

Climate Change Champions
Volunteers helping engage Borough residents on Climate Change and Sustainability within their own communities. An opportunity to get involved and encourage others to speak up and make a change.

Plastic Free Taskforce
The Council has set up and works collaboratively with the Plastic Free Taskforce, made up of a wide range of local organisations, parish and town councils and schools. The goal is to become a certified Plastic Free Community.

Plastic Free Pledge
Millions of people in the UK are making changes to reduce their reliance on plastic. And you can join in too! Through Telford & Wrekin's Plastic Free Pledge, we’re helping local people to banish single-use plastics with practical tips and advice. So take that first step – sign the pledge today.
