Who What Why
Long Mynd & District Bridleways Association was set up to improve and create safer off-road riding within South Shropshire, by maintaining public bridleways and researching lost historic routes. LMDBA won the British Horse Society’s equestrian access group of the year in 2020, awarded by HRH The Princess Royal. We have around 100 members and publish a quarterly magazine, The Portway. We work closely with the council’s Outdoor Partnership Team to keep bridleways and byways open and encourage people to get outdoors and appreciate the beautiful Shropshire countryside. Our work parties are made up entirely of volunteers, using mostly hand tools for minimal environmental impact and recycling materials wherever possible. We look to repair first before renewing. Always sensitive to our surroundings, we have sometimes even been able to create habitat as a result of careful clearance.
