With 60 acres of woodland to explore at the foot of the Wrekin Hill, Limekiln Woods is one of the most biodiverse areas in the borough. With plenty of walking routes visitors can immerse themselves in the natural environment whilst seeking out the hidden relics of the sites more industrial past.
Limekiln woods is home to a vast array of wildlife. The sites unique geology means that over 150 species of plants have been recorded here. In the spring the woodland floor comes alive with dogs mercury, wild garlic and bluebells flowering amongst the ferns. Whilst the woodland canopy is home to a vast array of breeding birds and bats. The small grassland glades at the sites boundaries are home to some of the rarest species in Telford like common twayblade. The site is also rich in industrial heritage with limekilns, bell pits and trackways all telling the story of the sites industrial past
There is some roadside parking around the woods as well as the Wrekin car park (at the foot f the Wrekin) – TF6 5AL.
