Who What Why
Project supported by Friends of the Earth Chester & District, and Transition Chester.
The aim is turning unused areas into growing spaces, in order to provide fresh and healthy organic food for members of the community that is produced locally.
Growing food for ourselves rather than buying from a supermarket is healthier and reduces environmental impacts such as those surrounding plastic packaging, emissions from importing food from abroad and the destruction of habitat for agricultural land.
Also, turning our city greener works towards reducing carbon in the atmosphere, and increasing biodiversity in urban areas.
Through community farm sharing we also connect people of all ages with the food we eat and connect with each other as a community, combating issues such as loneliness, poor nutrition and obesity and mental health issues whilst raising awareness of sustainable food and empowering the community.
