Who What Why
Climate Action Hub Telford is a charity set up in 2021. It is part of the network of Climate Emergency Centres (CECs) which are setting up across the UK to bring together a diverse range of groups and individuals in the local community to build solutions, relationships and resilience in the face of the Climate Emergency.
Climate Action Hub Telford is working in partnership with Telford Repair Cafe, Terracycle Telford and other local groups to support people in Telford and Wrekin to take climate action & protect our planet by reusing & sharing things. This reduces carbon emissions and waste going to landfill and helps us to support each other by offering low cost options.
Currently we do pop ups in and around Telford at least once a month. At our regular Repair, Recycle, Swap and Share events (last Saturday of the month) we work alongside Telford Repair Cafe who repair electrical items, IT equipment, clothes, household items and ornaments and do PAT testing. Terracycle Telford provide a collection point for hard to recycle items such as crisp and sweet packets, dental hygiene items and bread bags etc. We do Swaps and Giveaways of any items including books, DVD’s CD’s, games, toys, clothes, ornaments, household items. Three times a year we team up with Transition Telford at their Seed Swap, Grow Local and Harvest Local events and offer a garden scrap store and tree seedling giveaways. All this is provided on a pay-as-you-can basis. Once a year we also sponsor a film showing on an environmental theme at Wellington Orbit.
Longer term we are seeking a premises in Wellington. The Hub will feature ourselves, Telford Repair Cafe and Terracycle Telford to provide swaps, repair cafes and a Terracycle recycling collection point. We will provide a Library of Things where users can pay a small membership fee to borrow and return items which are typically expensive to buy and are not often used, including DIY, kitchen, garden and craft equipment, such as electric drills and sewing machines. We hope to work in conjunction with Shropshire Cycle Hub to make local deliveries. The venue will host children’s art exhibitions. It will also be used for talks and workshops such as, Save Our Shropshire’s climate literacy sessions, food growing workshops etc. to support people to take the action needed to transition our communities to net zero and build our resilience etc.
You can join our regular online meetings Monday evenings once a month. To access the zoom link please email us and we will add you to our mailing list.
