During normal times, Telford Repair Cafe runs on the last Saturday of the month at the Forge at The Wakes. A free social event where you can bring along items that you need to be fixed to volunteers who may have the expertise to help. Anyone can join in and support the repairs. A great way to encourage people to repair and reuse items that may have otherwise ended up in the bin.

Transition Telford who have received a grant from The National Lottery Community Fund, have decided to allocate the £2,500 to the strengthening of Telford Repair Cafe.

The group plan to use the funds to help buy more equipment, provide training, set up a website, and look at the opportunity of setting up a Telford Repair Cafe Alliance. The funds will enable them to support further repairs within their current setup location and support the start up of a series of community based repair cafes across Telford.

The funds awarded will be a huge boost to the Repair Cafe helping individuals in the community save money, stop filling landfill with broken and unloved goods and upskill people with repair skills that will continue to benefit them and others in the future.

A huge thank you to both The National Lottery Community Fund and Transition Telford in seeing the potential benefits that a resilient repair cafe could have to the local community and the wider environmental benefits.

Volunteer repairers needed – get involved

If you are interested in becoming a volunteer repairer or would be keen to find out more about setting up your own community repair cafe in Telford, the team would love to hear from you. Get in touch with the Telford Repair Cafe.

Do you have a Venue available one Saturday every month?

The Repair Cafe are also currently looking at options for a new location so even more of the community may be able to access this great community group. Not ruling out returning to The Wakes, but looking at possibilities to maximise what they can offer.

Do you run a venue in Telford that could host them? It could be in exchange for a small fee or possibly partnered up with a complimentary organisation they could share a space with. The location would need to include somewhere visitors could grab a drink, a little bit of storage and somewhere that is easily accessible so repairs can be brought along by even more individuals. If you think you can help, or suggest somewhere suitable please get in touch.

Transition Telford is a registered charity and part of the Transition Towns Network. They are a local voluntary run charity taking small community steps to tackle big global issues. Reg Charity 1166228.
