We will begin with an indoor session over a cup of tea/coffee learning the system before going for a gentle walk around the woodlands by the office and along the Ropewalk, looking at buds, bark and tree form. Then we will finish at the office identifying cuttings using your new skills.
No prior knowledge is required.
Workshop Tutor – Russell Rowley – SGCT’s CEO
Russell is a qualified Environmental Forester with a lifelong interest in trees. After becoming frustrated with existing tree identification systems which excluded many via scientific jargon, he developed his own system based on a potato! Since then he has taught hundreds of people a simple method to identify our most common broadleaved trees in Winter.
Severn Gorge Countryside Trust
This workshop is being hosted by the Severn Gorge Countryside Trust, a local charity.
The Trust’s aim is to promote, protect and conserve the living landscape of the Ironbridge Gorge World Heritage Site, which has a diverse range of habitats, including wildflower meadows, woodlands and heathlands. But that’s not all! We maintain over 20 kilometres of footpaths, conserve and protect 60 historic structures, run exciting Outdoor Learning and Volunteering Programmes to encourage local people and visitors to engage with the natural environment in a variety of ways.
All proceeds from this workshop will support the work of the Severn Gorge Countryside Trust.
