Cuan Wildlife in Much Wenclock has just two of it’s five London Marathon places remaining.

The 2021 London Marathon will be a virtual event in the same format as 2020, which saw a record breaking 37,966 runners taking part.

The virtual event can be run anywhere in the world and participants progress is tracked via an event app. Runners can complete the 26.2 miles over 24 hours on the routes of their choice.

Entry cost is £20 and participants are asked to raise just £100 minimum sponsorship for the rescue centre. Cuan Wildlife will provide a t-shirt before the marathon, and all finishers will earn an official virtual London Marathon media and t-shirt.

Every year, Cuan admits between 5-6,000 wildlife casualties who rely on their 24/7 service. Injured animals receive first aid, veterinary treatment and rehabilitation care until they are ready to return back to the wild. Many of the injuries seen are due to human conflict whether it is road accidents, tangled fishing wire or litter.

“Completing a marathon is a fantastic achievement and this is an iconic event. On top of that, our runners will be raising crucial funds to support the treatment of wild animals in need of care.

Taking place in October, there’s still plenty of time to prepare for the virtual marathon. As the event can be completed over 24 hours, you can jog, walk or even break the event down into more manageable stages.”
