Swapping the car for cycling, walking or e-biking even just one day a week makes a significant impact on carbon emissions. In addition to the environmental benefits there are huge benefits for your physical and mental wellbeing. Walk or cycle more and you will be kinder to the planet and your health.

Walk or Cycle More – to suit your lifestyle

If you are in a position to ditch the car altogether, then great! But many of us would struggle to do this with current public transport, lack of cycle networks or time constraints during busy our modern lives.

However much you use a car, make a promise to reduce this and swap to ‘active transport’ – walking or cycling.

Council Support

Both Telford & Wrekin, and Shropshire Council are keen on supporting active transport. With funding allocated to improving cycle ways and pedestrians routes.

The more people that use these facilities, the more likely they will developed further in the future.

If you know of routes that need repair or work to make them useable again, get in touch with your local councillor and let them know!

Bike TLC

If you have a bike in the shed that hasn’t seen daylight for a number of years, dust it off and give it a little care and service before going out on the roads.

There are a number of organisations and businesses around the County that specialise in bike repairs and servicing. Including Draft Cycles in Minsterley, The Shropshire Cycle Hub in Shrewsbury and Saturday Cycles in Wellington.

If you don’t have a bike, ask your workplace about the Cycle to Work Scheme. Many offer this as a way to save you money on buying a new bike.

If you know of a cycle repair shop or secondhand bike shop local to you, get in touch. We would love to support them and add them to the free Green Directory.
